R.J. Corman is seeking a talented Safety Manager to join our team in Westlake, LA.

Accountability: At R. J. Corman, Safety Managers are responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and improving site safety practices and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Developing and implementing workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.

  • Providing personnel with safety-related information such as training sessions, emergency protocols, and proper use of safety equipment.
  • Reviewing existing policies and procedures to ensure they are up to date.
  • Overseeing the company's daily operations and identifying opportunities for improvement of safety regulations.
  • Performing safety audits and physically inspecting all work areas and jobsites to identify possible safety issues.
  • Conducting risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, or long-term health hazards.
  • Preparing monthly or annual safety reports and presenting the information to management.
  • Collaborating with management to plan and implement a safety protocol budget.
  • Manage the compliance of switching operations to company policies, procedures, and practices in all areas, including accounting, inventory, purchasing, equipment usage and maintenance, expense and time reporting, human resources, safety, and DOT.
  • Establish safe operating procedures for employees, vehicles, and equipment under his supervision; assure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employee safety (RJC, AAR, FRA, and OSHA) regulations.
  • Assure that training plans are in place to upgrade employee job skills and achieve required compliance training. Administrate all training processes and procedures.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge/Education/Experience and Skills:

  • A bachelor's degree or at least 3 years’ experience in safety management, environmental safety, or a similar field as safety representative or health and safety manager.
  • Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace.
  • Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, County, and local transportation rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, AAR, FRA, DOT, in addition to Company Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to perform physically strenuous work.
  • Requirements of this position involve extended periods of strenuous physical activity under various field and weather conditions.
  • Travel and other duties are required as needed or as assigned.
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80lbs.
  • Able to push and pull with up to 150lbs. of force

Environmental Conditions: May perform duties in outside, job-site environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment as well as inside office environments. Frequent exposure to weather elements, travel as needed and appropriate PPE required for job site and for site visits. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying types of environmental conditions.

Requires efficient development and performance of processes; and requires ability to multi-task in a time sensitive environment. High visibility position requires professional demeanor in interactions with Supervisors, employees, contractors and customers.
