What are the responsibilities and job description for the Import Classification Manager position at R+L Global?
Import Classification Manager is responsible for supporting the import classification functions of AFC International, LLC and experience in applying classification, country of origin, and trade preference knowledge/decisions to support import customs operations is essential.
Import Classification Manager responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Classify products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Explanatory Notes and Customs Binding Rulings
- Identify and record applicable Partner Government Agency requirements based upon product classifications
- Support various trade programs and initiatives, such as duty preference programs, which derive from a product’s import classification
- Discuss with importers on Customs and Partner Government Agency regulations
- Determine applicability of Section 301, Section 232 and USTR exclusions within the entry process
- Conduct research and determine applicability of Anti-dumping and Countervailing duties
- Perform entry summary audits
- Conduct internal customs training as required
- Keep current with developing trends, new regulations and Customs and Partner Government Agency programs
Qualification, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent education plus work experience
- 5 years’ experience in Customs regulations, clearance, and brokerage
- U.S. Customs Broker License required
- Experience with transportation management systems/software; Cargo Wise preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of Tariff Classifications and Country of Origin
- Ability to meet with customers and speak to processes regarding importing parts or finished products
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and inter-personal skills, with the ability to clearly articulate
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing unmatched customer service
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
