What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coiler - 2nd shift position at R&L Spring Company?
Job Summary:
The Class C Coiler will be required to operate one or more spring coiling and wire forming machines that automatically coils compression, extension, torsion springs, wire forms and/or rings from round, shaped, or flat wire according to blueprints. Will be able to learn and perform some set ups under supervision. To include some pre‐production set ups, and monitoring of some additional equipment such as tooling, ovens, de‐reelers, and some other production and manufacturing machinery.
**$1/hr shift premium for 2nd shift!!**
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Works with team to deliver quality springs to each customer on time, every time.
- Ability to set up and adjust some machines to make springs that conform to customer specifications. Control specified dimensions of produced parts and adjusts machine for minor deviations. Assistance required from Class A Coiler.
- Strive to meet setup times and run rates. Assistance from Class A Coiler will often be needed.
- Ensure proper tooling for equipment is available and in good condition. Notify team leader if items are needed.
- Ensure equipment is in good working condition. Notify team leader if repairs are needed.
- Completes first piece submission by completing all operations on the traveler, and measuring the samples for conformance to specifications, before submitting samples for approval. Assistance from Class A Coiler may be required.
- Performs necessary machine adjustments to attain specified tolerances to ensure maximum throughput and optimum product quality. Assistance from Class A Coiler may be required.
- Measure springs for conformance to customer specifications using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and load testers during all required part checks.
- Performs all in-process inspections per requirements.
- Seeks assistance from Team Leader or Class A Coiler to resolve production problems.
- Move parts to the next operation when order is complete and/or by the end of each shift.
- Review and understand statistical data and perform all adjustments to machine if given tolerance limits are exceeded.
- Notify supervisor/team leader if nonconformances are found.
- Follow R&L workmanship and quality guidelines.
- Completes all production and quality records, per requirements.
- Does some preventive maintenance and ensures required records are complete.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Abides by all R&L policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook.
- Abides by all R&L safety standards and requirements.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to read and follow written work instructions.
- Ability to read and comprehend part specifications, blueprints, equipment manuals and production schedules.
- Ability to communicate production issues.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage. Assistance from Class A Coiler may be required.
- Ability to apply prior manufacturing understanding to carry out spring making instructions with some supervision.
- Understand some manufacturing processes within the organization and understand how each operation affects the final product.
- Ability to use and understand electronic tablets for production data input.
- Ability to use and understand inspection measuring & and test equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude
- Basic tooling knowledge
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability in problem solving and some participation in resolution.
- Aware of methods to identify and propose continuous improvement ideas for setup times, run rates to include related processes.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 0-1 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred manufacturing experience
Physical Requirements:
- Required to stand, walk, and use hands regularly.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
2nd shift hours:
Monday - Thursday from 3:30 pm to 12:00 am & Friday from 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm
40 hours/week
Overtime available at times but never mandatory
