Immediate need for a full-time funeral director and embalmer seeking a rewarding position with a well-established family-owned funeral home serving approximately 200 families a year between both of our locations.
Summary / Objective
The Funeral Director / Embalmer will be responsible for caring for the deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks including personalized funeral arrangements, embalming, removals and transfers, cosmetology, dressing, hair styling, and any other preparation required for the deceased.
Requirements
Have a valid degree in Mortuary Science
Have a valid New York State Funeral Director & Embalmer License
Knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations related to the funeral industry.
At least 1 year of funeral industry experience
Have a valid Driver’s License
Lift weight above 100 pounds
Be sensitive to and exhibit empathy for the individuals and families you will be working with
Have strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate accountability, honesty and integrity
Team Oriented
Maintain neat professional business appearance
Attention to detail
Can work independently, concurrently remain teachable and self-motivated
Public speaking skills
Be proficient with computers and technology (Microsoft office)
Be able to work in a fast-paced environment
Be available to work nights, holidays and weekends; Flexibility of availability may be necessary as services may occur outside of normal business hours
Essential Functions and Competencies
Meets with client families to listen, educate, and arrange personalized funeral services to ensure their experience with the business is of the highest quality.
Ensures every client family is presented with all service and merchandise options.
Contributes to the overall efficiency of the location by maintaining open and effective communication and maintaining accurate and timely client files.
Acts to improve market share through participation in community events, groups and / or organizations and other community relationships as assigned by your supervisor.
Carries out other projects / duties as assigned (i.e. car washing, building / equipment repair, pre-need arrangement planning).
Works on-call / first call, in rotation as assigned i.e. phone, face to face, at the hospital, hospice, residence.
Initial transfers of decedents, embalms, dresses, cosmeticizes, caskets, and prepares deceased on as needed basis (per appropriate licensing) to the instructions obtained from the family.
Completes tasks and details resulting from the Arrangement Conference.
Ensures proper paperwork, including permits and certificates are completed timely and in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
Conducts and attends funeral services regularly.
Lead all post service follow-up as needed.
Produces memorial products that may include scanning photos, ordering of memorabilia or stationery, creating electronic presentations, writing obituaries, and creating on-line memorials. Prior to event, prepares event room including but not limited to set-up chairs, tables, flowers, guest books, and appropriate décor. Post event cleans chairs, tables, floors, proper storage of items, identifies property in need of repair, and courier / deliver family memorabilia to home
May perform a variety of attendant duties including but not limited to parking lot attendant, driver, usher, pallbearer, or courier
