JOB TITLE: Policy Communications Intern

DEPARTMENT: Government Affairs

REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President

LOCATION: Washington, D.C.

START DATE: January 2025

About The Role

The internship will allow the student to learn how to take skills acquired in school related to his or her areas of interest and apply them across the organization resulting in an increased understanding of the intersection between the government affairs and communications industries. The intern will develop professional skills such as project oversight, time management, communication skills, and customer service. The intern’s core responsibility will be providing the firm with client updates every morning.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver daily news updates on clients to firm members every morning.
  • Determine relevant news articles for clients.
  • Supporting brand advocacy client work (drafting op/eds, LTEs, press statements).
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Provide feedback and solutions for opportunities for improvements.
  • Depending on office location or business needs, some travel may be required.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

  • College students with minimum GPA of 3.0 or recent college graduates.
  • Based in Washington, DC (preferred) or on the east coast.
  • Learn about work processes and cycles.
  • Participate in department and company meetings where possible.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook) in daily tasks.
  • Effectively prioritize and execute while multi-tasking in an occasional high-pressure environment.
  • Recognize and communicate appropriate urgency and impact of work.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and effectively work both individually and in a team.
  • Understands and abides by the agency’s business practices, core values, philosophies, policies and procedures. 
  • Adhere to an agreed upon work schedule, policies, procedures and rules governing professional behavior.
  • Adhere to company and professional ethics governing the handling of confidential information.
  • Assume personal and professional responsibility for his/her actions and activities.
  • Maintain professional relationships with agency employees and clients.
  • Work on applying knowledge acquired in the classroom to real-world business situations.
  • Develop a self-awareness of attitudes, values, and behavior patterns that influence the work environment.
  • Prepare for and utilize learning opportunities such as training, meetings, or conferences offered by the company.
  • Complete work assignments in a thorough, consistent and punctual manner.
