What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Operator position at R & R Pipeline LLC?
JOB SUMMARY
An Utility Operator’s main responsibility is to operate equipment to assist in installing new or repairing existing distribution utilities, including mainline and service lines.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Exemplify our Core Values: Protect, Perform, Positivity, Pride, and Prosperity
- Utilize excavators of all sizes to excavate around existing utilities
- Ability to operate on multiple types of utilities
- Operate other equipment to move soft/hard surfaces to prep and finish job sites
- Assess work zone to determine if existing utilities have been properly located prior to digging
- Excavate around live gas lines and other utilities, requiring skill and care to protect life and property
- Comply with industry/client standards and company policies for excavation
- Maintain tolerance zones
- Ability to identify necessary tasks needed based on direction given from Foreman
- Perform pre and post inspections and daily maintenance on equipment
- Willingness to perform nonoperating tasks as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized job site free from unnecessary hazards
- Perform Driver’s Vehicle Inspections and cleaning on vehicles and equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- Ability to be a team player with a cando attitude
- 2 years of experience operating equipment
- 1 year of experience operating around existing underground utility infrastructure
- Competent Person Training (provided)
- Withstand the climate yearround
- Insurable Driver’s License
- Pass DOT drugtesting & DOT physical
- Pass criminal background check
- Ability to adhere to safety expectations set by OSHA and client/company standards
- Ability to complete computerbased and handson training once hired
- Willingness to travel out of town if necessary
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3 years of experience in the utility infrastructure industry
- 2 years of experience operating in utility infrastructure
- GPS Experience
- HeavyJob knowledge
- Proficient with iPads
- CDL Class A
- Previously held Operator Qualifications trainings
WORK ENVIROMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position is mostly outside, doing strenuous work in the elements. Typical hours are Monday through Friday from 7am to 5/6pm. Some Saturdays may be required. Overtime opportunities may be available. Overtime is classified as anything over 40 hours a week. Travel is dependent on that specific contracted job.
