ENTRY-LEVEL TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN APPRENTICESHIP: WILL BE TRAINED
As an Infrastructure Fiber Optic Technician, you are responsible for installing and maintaining equipment and tools used to deliver internet services. You will be required to learn and maintain a working knowledge of the equipment used on network infrastructure as well as the tools and safety required to work on said equipment.
As an Infrastructure Technician, you are required to arrive at your designated office location according to your schedule unless noted otherwise. On arrival, you will be responsible for checking the schedule for the day and collecting parts required to complete scheduled work. At job sites, upon arrival, you will be required to wear appropriate PPE and participate in Job
Safety Assessment. After safety has been addressed, discuss the job at hand and what tasks you are responsible for. At the end of the workday, you will be responsible for restocking parts that were not used and cleaning out the work vehicle.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Splicing:
- Install, splice, and terminate fiber optic cables and connectors.
- Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables.
- Test and troubleshoot fiber optic systems using OTDR, power meters, and other diagnostic tools.
Maintenance and Repair:
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on fiber optic networks.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to fiber optic cables and equipment.
- Repair and replace damaged fiber optic cables and components.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on project status and work performed.
- Update network diagrams and schematics as needed.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while working with fiber optic systems.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools for all tasks.
Requirements include but are not limited to:
- Must have a working smartphone with cellular data
- Ability to work well as a team member.
- Ability to handle a heavy physical workload (Lift and move up to 80 lbs.)
- Valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Identify wire and cable colors.
- Weigh less than 275 lbs. For ladder safety.
- Must be 21 or older
- Must pass a background check and drug test.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $27.00 per hour
