Stable Hand Job Description
Stable Hands are responsible in assisting Stable Manager with maintaining a clean, safe and professional stable operation. They will also assist Stable Managers in coordinating, working and supervising activities and workers engaged in maintenance of stables, pastures and care of horses. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as we are a resort facility. We have a great stable team and looking for more team members!
Essential Duties
- Must be able to work well with resort Owners and their guests
- Maintain regular attendance in compliance with resort standards, as required by scheduling.
- Assist Stable Managers with:
- dispensing and applying prescribed medications and treatments
- managing disposal of waste
- maintenance of pastures, gates, corrals and fence lines to include fence repairs and weed control under fences
- Help maintain and clean all: trucks, trailers, tractors, skid steer, carts and carriages used by the stables to include checking fluids, tires, bearings, chains, battery and belts
- Help maintain and clean all tools required for maintenance and repair of stables and pastures
- Keep gates locked on pastures and secures all property in stables
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions
Education and Experience
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge and use of other farm tools and equipment is a plus
- One-year related experience or training is a must
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge and use of heavy equipment: backhoe, skid steer, tractors is a plus
- Other Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have valid DL and clean driving record
- Must be able to pass background and drug screening
- Some overtime required, to include weekends and some holidays.
- Must have flexible schedule
Physical Requirements
- Required use of hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, sit, crawl, climb or balance
- Medium work – exerting up to 50 -75 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Vision requirements include color and peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus and close vision
- Must be able to speak and hear
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Holidays
- Weekends as needed
Experience:
- Farming: 1 year (Preferred)
- Heavy equipment operation: 1 year (Preferred)
- Equine Experience: 1 year (Required)
