Background
The purpose of this request is to select one (1) experienced Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer with detailed knowledge and experience in Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse (BI & DW) solution implementation efforts, especially to support a pension or financial services organization. The selected candidate will work within the Enterprise IT Solutions & Innovation Division of the Client's Technology Services Branch.
The Senior BI Engineer (Contractor) is responsible for implementing AI-powered business intelligence use cases, architecting, designing, and optimizing the Client's existing BI & DW systems and infrastructure to drive Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enhanced business intelligence. The role combines technical expertise in business intelligence, data architecture, data modeling, and ETL processes with a strategic focus on transforming raw data into actionable insights. The Senior BI Engineer shall have detailed knowledge and extensive experience with technical expertise for BI & DW tools, standards, processes, and architectures to participate in the Client s Core BI & DW Technical Team through the implementation of an AI-enhanced enterprise BI & DW solution.
In addition to core BI responsibilities, the Senior BI Engineer is expected to incorporate AI-powered BI capabilities into the Client s Data Analytics Platform. By leveraging machine learning (ML), Generative AI, and advanced data analytics techniques, the Senior BI Engineer aims to unlock deeper data insights, automate data analysis, and enhance decision-making processes.
MINIMUM TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- At least ten (10) years of hands-on experience with Power BI to write complex DAX calculations, develop interactive dashboards, and implement best practices for data visualization.
- At least ten (10) years of experience in writing complex SQL queries, SQL performance tuning, creating E-R diagrams, and designing efficient data models for large-scale Data Warehouse systems.
- At least five (5) years of programming experience in Python, Java, or R for data processing, automation, and working with large datasets.
- At least three (3) years of experience in Amazon Redshift or Snowflake for scalable BI solutions.
- At least two (2) years of hands-on experience with LLMs (GPT, Claude, Gemini), Auto-ML tools, or NLP for generative AI use cases, predictive analysis, or data forecasting.
- Desirable Technical Qualifications
- Hands-on experience providing enterprise-level data architecture and/or data modeling services at a public sector entity such as a local, state, or federal agency.
- Hands-on experience in developing ETL pipelines with AWS ETL tools such as AWS Glue, AWS Step Functions, and AWS Crawlers.
- AWS professional certifications. The Client may request a copy of the certifications.
- A bachelor s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields from an accredited or government-sanctioned college/university. The Client may request a copy of the degree.
- The proposed project person will be able to adhere to the hybrid working model by working on-site 2-3 days per week at the Client s headquarters in West Sacramento, CA.
