Key responsibilities include :
Assessing damage
Thoroughly inspecting vehicles to identify the extent of structural damage, including frame alignment issues, major panel damage, and potential safety concerns
Frame straightening
Utilizing specialized equipment like frame machines and pulling tools to realign bent or twisted frames to factory specifications
Panel replacement
Removing and replacing severely damaged body panels like doors, fenders, hoods, and roof sections using cutting and welding techniques
Welding repairs
Performing complex welding procedures to join new metal sections to existing frame or body parts, including spot welding, MIG welding, and TIG welding
Metal fabrication
Shaping and fitting replacement metal panels to match the vehicle's original contours using hand tools and power tools
Body panel alignment
Ensuring proper fit and alignment of replaced panels to maintain the vehicle's aesthetics and functionality
Preparation for paint
Grinding, sanding, and filling repaired areas to create a smooth surface ready for paint application
Collaboration with other technicians
Working closely with the owner, other auto body technicians like painters and detailers to complete the overall repair process
Required skills and qualifications :
5 years or more of extensive experience in auto body repair is a requirement
Ability to read, write and speak english fluently is a requirement
A valid driver's license is required
A strong understanding of vehicle construction, frame design, and collision repair techniques
Advanced welding skills
Proficiency in various welding methods, including MIG, TIG, and spot welding
Metal fabrication skills
Ability to shape and manipulate metal to create accurate replacements for damaged parts
Precise measuring and alignment skills
Accuracy in using measuring tools to ensure proper frame alignment and panel fit
Physical strength and endurance
Ability to handle heavy metal parts and perform demanding physical tasks
Attention to detail
High level of precision needed to achieve accurate repairs and quality finishes
