R2O Consulting LLC is a Cleveland-based engineering firm dedicated to providing innovative solutions to water infrastructure projects, and whose diverse experience includes wastewater, water, stormwater, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, and environmental compliance projects. As the firm continues to grow, R2O is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Water Infrastructure Engineer to join our staff to lead and develop our Infrastructure group and become part of the firm’s future ownership team.
The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in design, project management, and construction management for wastewater and water systems for local and regional clients, including sanitary sewers, pumping, collection and water distribution systems. This role requires a deep understanding of engineering principles, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, which will be applied toward leading and managing projects, teams and tasks. The role will also be geared toward leadership team opportunities, and we are prioritizing leadership acumen in this hire. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), benefits-eligible position; starting salary range is $90,000-$125,000/year.
This position will be based out of Cleveland, Ohio. The immediate project need is for construction administration oversight on a separate sanitary sewer project based in Northeast Ohio.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities and tasks will vary among projects and may include:
- Overseeing construction activities compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Providing construction administration services including reviewing submittals, requests for information (RFI), change orders and contractor pay applications, and making recommendations
- Performing resident observation services, including monitoring and documenting daily construction work, confirming construction document requirements, identifying and reporting deficient or non-compliant work
- Leading the design and development of water and wastewater utility projects, including gravity pipelines, pump stations, and force mains.
- Managing all phases of project lifecycle, from initial planning and feasibility studies to construction and commissioning.
- Coordinating with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project objectives are met.
- Preparing and reviewing engineering reports, plans, and specifications.
- Conducting site inspections and providing technical guidance to project teams.
- Developing and managing project budgets, schedules, and resources.
- Staying updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
- Providing project management and technical support for projects involving planning, design and construction of water infrastructure projects
- Working with minimal supervision on projects and performing engineering analysis, technical writing, and design/engineering calculations
- Supervising and mentoring technical staff
- Leading teams in solving project problems and applying critical thinking skills to develop solutions
- Managing task deliverables to ensure that scope, schedule, budget and quality requirements are successfully met with moderate supervision
- Reviewing scope documents and developing work breakdown structures, task budgets, and resource needs
- Interacting professionally with clients in meetings, workshops and professional organizations
- Working collaboratively as a member of both small and large teams to successfully deliver quality projects on schedule and within budget
- Working in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies
- Identifying strategic business opportunities and supporting new business development
- Collaborating with team members and company ownership on business activities
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field
- Ohio Professional Engineering (PE) license required, PE license in PA and/or CO a plus
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in water and sewer utility design, project and construction management for municipal clients
- Ability to lead staff in preparing reports, conducting engineering analyses and calculations, overseeing the preparation of engineering design documents and performing construction inspection services
- Strong knowledge of pipeline design, sewer design and pump stations
- Proven experience in construction management and oversight
- Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills required
- Proven work history, strong work ethic, mentoring experience, and team-player attitude
- Established client and professional network in Ohio is preferred
- Experience supporting business development activities is preferred
- Project Management coursework/certification a plus
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, BlueBeam)
- Additional license, certification or training in Civil/Environmental Engineering fields a plus
