What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weld Technician position at Race Rock?
SUMMARY:
Responsible for welding test administration for job applicants. Assists new and existing employees in welding techniques as it applies to company requirements. Develops, implements, manages and teaches manufacturing welding technology to new hire welding school participants. The welding technician will be responsible for developing new and existing employee’s skills, knowledge and ability commensurate to the goals of the program and effectively use equipment and materials to meet goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
- Utilizes effective teaching techniques and methods which assist employees in attaining the performance objectives and daily training plans.
- Develop training objectives, employee welding performance objectives and daily training plans.
- Prepares and submits reports indicating student progress; at the completion or termination of an employees training, submits a report of the total number of hours of training the student received and the related skills achieved.
- Develop the training plan including schedule and manual.
- Receive various training needs from production supervisors for skill enhancement and planning for new processes and materials as per customers requirements.
- Trains welders in both theory and practice in manual and automatic processes.
- Periodically assess employee performance by conducting tests and evaluate the trainees.
- Keep records of the completed training and employees training performance.
- Develops and recommends new modified welding techniques and procedures.
- Works with production management to establish welding procedures for production and welding personnel, to ensure compliance with specifications, processes and heating requirements.
- Evaluates new equipment, techniques, and materials in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
- Directs and coordinates technical inspections to ensure compliance with established welding procedures and standards.
- Develops, issues and controls all Welding Procedures, Welding Specifications, Process Control Documents and all other technical welding documents.
- Ensures compliance with the facility’s Safety Program and Environmental Program as directed.
- Assists production supervisor on plant schedules and issues.
- Provides input on requirements needed to maintain cost efficiency.
- Makes recommendations to improve production flow equipment performance, quality of product and cost savings.
- Work with production supervisors to achieve production goals.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of an internal welding test which includes 1G.
- Welding experience in manufacturing environment both as a welder and instructor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Experience in effective instructional methods and techniques which are used in assisting employees to gain the skills needed to meet job requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently.
- Possess interpersonal skills to gain the interest respect and cooperation of employees and supervisors.
- Problem solving skills to analyze instructional situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action to obtain maximum learning.
- Must be able to read drawings.
- Reliable work ethics with great attendance.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes weekends.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, bio-hazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises.
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and includes the use of protective equipment.
