What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Operations Controller position at Radford University?
Job Summary :
Provide strong leadership and supervision to the departments of Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounting Support Services. Directs and provides strong leadership and oversight of all facets of the decentralized accounts payable and check writing operations to ensure that all payments on invoices, credit card charges, and travel reimbursements are accurate, valid, timely, and properly recorded. Directs all facets of the payroll operations to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and university policies and procedures. Resolves complex payroll issues timely and ensures appropriate coordination with university offices and state central operations. Assists the University Controller in the development and implementation of campus-wide financial services, policies, and procedures. Actively recommends and implements ways to improve, streamline, and automate current financial systems, financial results, and accounting processes. Works cooperatively with financial services staff, campus departments, and other university administrators to resolve campus-wide accounting issues. Assists the University Controller with special projects, prepares special reports for executive management, and performs other duties as assigned. Provide backup support for Finance System Security for user access setup and analysis. Direct annual vendor tax compliance in preparation and filing of annual Forms 1099.
Required Qualifications :
Comprehensive experience in all accounting areas; in-depth knowledge of current accounting principles, thorough knowledge, and experience with complex integrated financial systems and related applications; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to develop and maintain exemplary relations with all constituencies; proven strong leadership skills; excellent organizational skills; considerable managerial experience to include leading / supervising professional staff; and problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects with competing deadlines; ability to articulate strategies, problem solve, organize information, and manage multiple complex and time-sensitive projects; ability to read, interpret and analyze professional accounting literature, technical procedures, and / or governmental regulations.
Preferred Qualifications :
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in governmental accounting and / or experience in a college / university setting. Knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s business practices and; experience with Banner ERP system, Cognos, eVA, Emburse, ADP payroll, and Cardinal.
