Job Summary
The Director of Student Success and Retention will provide leadership and direction to a team of professionals working towards student success initiatives within the Highlander Success Center. The Director oversees the top priorities of the unit including: Fostering Cross-Department Collaboration, Strategic Alignment with Broader Student Success Initiatives, Data-Informed Decision-Making Across Functions, Elevating Retention as an Institution-Wide Priority, and Flexibility to Respond to Institutional Needs. This position develops, implements and assesses program(s) to support students on their path towards graduation. The director will report to and work closely with the Assistant Provost of Student Success.
Represents the Office of Student Success and Retention on campus-wide committees; develops and oversees reports related to retention and student success; designs and implements programs; collaborates with faculty and staff; and performs other responsibilities as necessary to advance the mission and goals of the Office of Student Success
Required Qualifications
Experience in the areas of academic support/advising and student success programs
Demonstrated understanding, knowledge, and experience of current evidence-based best practices related to student retention
Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty and staff of diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities
Experience gathering data, analyzing trends and writing reports
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, staff, administration, or the public
Knowledge of research on student learning, motivation and retention
Strong technical skills that include experience working with student management and first alert systems and tools that enhances student retention and success
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications i.e. Word, Excel, Google Tools, etc
Demonstrated experience in planning and budget management
Supervisory experience, including identifying areas of improvement in the unit.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of progressive leadership and management experience
Experience with Student Success Management Platform (e.g. Starfish, EAB Navigate, etc.)
Demonstrated understanding of enrollment/retention management services
Experience working with students from under-served and under-represented backgrounds preferred;
Familiarity in the use of communication through new media, websites, and social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.).
