Job Summary
Radford University’s collegiate recovery program, Highlander H.O.P.E., is seeking a dynamic Recovery Support Specialist to effectively help build and grow a diverse, positive, and inclusive Recovery-Ready community. A Recovery-Ready Campus is a place where individuals are empowered to ask for help, intervene with empathy when they notice someone struggling with alcohol or other drug use, and respect recovery by offering encouragement and celebrating success.
Reporting to the Coordinator of Peer Services, this position promotes wellbeing by helping develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate Radford University’s recovery support initiatives. These initiatives are designed to engage and empower students in recovery or considering recovery, as well as recovery allies. While students are the primary focus of the endeavors of this position, supporting the wellbeing and health of campus includes advocating, educating, and disseminating information to faculty and surrounding community. The Specialist will focus on nurturing a Recovery-Ready Campus through the role of educator, facilitator, and mentor as well as connect individuals to appropriate on- and off-campus clinical providers. This is wage position that is grant-funded.
Required Qualifications
Must identify with a year in recovery and be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist as recognized by DBHDS or NAADAC, or, a peer who has completed training in the last 6mo and is pursuing their certification.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Ability to be flexible, work independently, and be proactive with pursuing and strengthening partnerships
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and creating inclusive environments
Ability to ethically maintain standards of professional care and confidentiality
Ability to participate in continuing professional development activities to maintain competency
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and adhering to ethical guidelines of peer work
A proven commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in order stay current with best practices and emerging trends of peer work
Preferred Qualifications
Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion or recovery support initiatives
Ability to relate effectively to and engage graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, administration, and community agencies
Experience collaborating, volunteering, or working with recovery community organizations
Experience in a collegiate recovery community as a staff member, intern, or member
Understanding of student development issues, emerging needs, and interests
Certified Health Education Specialist certification
Hourly Range
$18/hr for up to 20 hours per week
