Position Summary
The Metal Shop Lead is responsible for coordinating and supervising all activities for the metal shop team. This role will monitor production schedules while maintaining high-quality standards, adherence to safety standards, and efficient workflow. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, hands on experience in metalworking, and a commitment to quality.
- Lead, coordinate, and train all metal shop workers
- Assist with conducting the cycle counts for the department
- Issue materials required
- Checking the consumption of products
- Understanding and in-depth knowledge of reading and interpreting prints, instructions, and symbols
- Must have full understanding of print reading and welding symbols, along with geometric tolerances and how they relate to the REI finished part
- Operate and troubleshoot metalworking equipment
- Ability to set up and run the paint line including hanging and removing parts
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics and work orders
- Experience operating and maintaining metal shop equipment (CNC machines, press brakes, welders, and grinders)
- Ability to collaborate with management and other departments to improve processes and resolve issues
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2 years of experience in metalworking, fabrication, and welding, with at least 1 year in a leadership role
- 2 years’ experience using Brake press machines, CNC Punch Press machines, MIG welding and powder coating preferred
- Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. and stand for extended periods
