JOB SUMMARY | ||||||
The PRN Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs a variety of Nuclear Medicine procedures in an outpatient setting | ||||||
while maintaining a high level of customer service and quality patient care. The administration of the PRN Nuclear | ||||||
Medicine Technologist includes coordinating and performing Nuclear Medicine procedures following the protocols | ||||||
established by the radiologist and demonstrating compassion to ensure overall patient satisfaction. This is a PRN | ||||||
position and will be scheduled on an as needed basis. | ||||||
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES | ||||||
1. Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist and as written in | ||||||
the procedure manual. Patients are positioned and scanned correctly assuring that the physician prescription and | ||||||
the scan are the same. | ||||||
2. Properly inputs all required patient information into the system including protocol, patient history in full | ||||||
sentences, performing providers, and any additional information to the radiologist regarding the procedure. | ||||||
3. Obtains complete and detailed history to assist the radiologist with diagnosis from each patient. Checks blood | ||||||
glucose levels for all patients. Performs exams in an accurate and timely manner. | ||||||
4. Orders radiopharmaceuticals on a daily basis. Performs daily QA to assure proper functioning of equipment and | ||||||
also performs daily check of survey meters. | ||||||
5. Calibrates dose to be in the range of prescribed dose in dose calibrator. Uses aseptic technique to administer | ||||||
radiopharmarmaceuticals according to the established policy. Records reciept of the radioactive unit doses from | ||||||
the point of administration to disposal including date, method of receipt, identity and activity of the unit dose. | ||||||
6. Processes all documents and paperwork that requires review and/or signatures to the RSO in a timely manner | ||||||
as required by the Bureau of Radiation Control. | ||||||
7. Conducts surveys daily and wipes tests weekly on the scan bed, injection table and preparation counter to insure | ||||||
that no spills or leakage has occurred. Disposes of all biohazardous wastes as required by established policy. | ||||||
8. Reports any accidents involving radioactive substances to radiation safety officer and documents the clean-up | ||||||
process following established guidelines. | ||||||
9. Properly identifies patients and demonstrates compassion while maintaining patient confidentiality. Explains | ||||||
the exam to each patient to ensure patient safety and cooperation. | ||||||

WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS | ||||||
2 or more years as a certified nuclear technologist is preferred. | ||||||
High School Diploma or GED. | ||||||
Graduate of an approved school of nuclear medicine. Registered by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification | ||||||
Board. | ||||||
Current Florida Nuclear Medicine License. | ||||||
SKILLS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS | ||||||
Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and public. | ||||||
This job requires prolonged sitting or standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching; Must be able to see with or | ||||||
without corrective eyewear, must be able to hear clearly, with or without assistance. This position may require lifting | ||||||
50 plus pounds. |
