JOB SUMMARY | ||||||
The Sonographer performs a variety of ultrasound procedures in an outpatient setting while maintaining a high | ||||||
level of customer service and quality patient care. The administration of the Sonographer includes performing routine | ||||||
breast ultrasound procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist and demonstrating compassion | ||||||
to ensure overall patient satisfaction. | ||||||
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES | ||||||
1. Performs routine breast ultrasound procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist. Patients | ||||||
are positioned and scanned correctly assuring that the physician prescription and scan are the same. | ||||||
2. Properly inputs all required patient information into the system including protocol, patient history in full | ||||||
sentences, performing providers, and any additional information to the radiologist regarding the procedure. | ||||||
3. Obtains complete and detailed history to assist the radiologist with diagnosis from each patient. Performs exams | ||||||
in an accurate and timely manner. | ||||||
4. Properly identifies patients and demonstrates compassion while maintaining patient confidentiality. Explains | ||||||
the exam to each patient to ensure patient safety and cooperation. | ||||||
5. Assists the radiologist during breast biopsies while following OSHA and universal precautions. Reviews consent | ||||||
forms with patients and answers any questions regarding the procedure, and ensures that the radiologist and patient | ||||||
sign the consent forms. Properly labels the specimen containers and fills out any necessary paperwork accurately. | ||||||
6. Maintains exam rooms by stocking exam rooms with necessary supplies. Maintains equipment and reports any | ||||||
equipment malfunctions to the supervisor or appropriate service provider. | ||||||
7. Properly windows and levels images for film printing and burns CDs as necessary. | ||||||
8. Promotes teamwork by assisting other staff as needed. Performs other duties as required. | ||||||

WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS | ||||||
2 or more years in the Sonography field is preferred. | ||||||
High School Diploma or GED. | ||||||
Completion of a course in Ultrasound; Current RDMS and Breast certifications are required. | ||||||
SKILLS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS | ||||||
Skills in properly positioning patients and obtaining diagnostic images, identifying equipment problems, | ||||||
establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and public. | ||||||
This job requires prolonged sitting or standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching; Normal vision range | ||||||
with the absence of color blindness, normal hearing, and normal eye to hand coordination and manual dexterity; | ||||||
the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. This position may require lifting up to 50 pounds. |
