Position Summary
Under the clinical direction of a radiologist and general supervision of the ultrasound supervisor, center manager, and technical director performs a variety of ultrasound scanning and imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical ultrasound procedures that require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ultrasound for ultrasound diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Perform all specialty areas of ultrasound exams : general, vascular, small parts, breast, and OB / GYN to include assisting radiologists with procedures.
- Receive and follow directive and instruction from radiologists, referring physicians, ultrasound supervisor, center manager, and technical director to properly perform the position function.
- Operate ultrasound scanning equipment and assist physicians and / or radiologists as appropriate to comply with regulatory agencies and established policy, procedure, protocol.
- Calculate and select proper ultrasound technical factors such as type of transducer, scan mode, axis, gain, etc. to apply to imaging sequence and procedure.
- Perform patient examination according to physician's orders as directed.
- Explain proper preparation to patient prior to procedure and verify appropriate patient history pertinent to examination ordered. Ensure that imaging records are properly completed with appropriate information, such as patient name, account number, date of exam, date of birth, etc.
- Provide personal, patient, patient family, and assisting staff protection in accordance with prescribed ultrasound and equipment safety standards, policies, and regulatory agencies.
- Escort patient through procedure to prevent entry into unauthorized or restricted areas of facility.
- Prepare and position patient for ultrasound scanning and ensure patient modesty, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Prepare images for radiologist and physician interpretation. Review processed images to ensure quality and completeness for diagnostic purposes.
- Operate computer software, computers, printers, and phone systems.
- Contribute and maintain good working rapport with all patients, personnel, radiologists, and physicians to assure that the organization's objectives effectively meet the needs of patients and physicians.
- Assure that patient rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, and civil rights are maintained.
- Maintain confidentiality of all classified and sensitive information and records, including patient care information.
- Contribute to an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis throughout the organization.
- Assure formal introduction of self by name to all patients and address patient by name in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner. Assure treatment of all patients with warmth, dignity, and consideration.
- Follow established policies and procedures, including safety and precautions.
- Report all unsafe / hazardous conditions and defective equipment to supervisor immediately.
- Assure that assignment areas are maintained in a neat, safe, clean, and orderly fashion. Assist with laundry of patient gowns, sheets, and other linens when appropriate or requested.
- Assist with quality control duties and assignments.
- Attend and participate in in-service education classes, seminars, staff meetings, and on-the-job training programs as required to comply with policy and accrediting agencies.
- Market to referring physician offices, patients, and other potential clients to help grow the services. Distribute marketing brochures, promote growth of imaging services, and referral sources. Represent the organization to the community in a positive manner. Act as a liaison between organization, patients, and referring offices to ensure open communication and problem solving.
- Perform other related duties within the job classification or organization as necessary or as assigned by a physician, radiologist, ultrasound supervisor, diagnostic imaging center manager, or technical director.
- Recent market adjustments made to hourly rates based on years of experience.
