Maintenance Supervisor

General Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The Maintenance Supervisor will supervise a team of employees charged with the safe and efficient maintenance of equipment.

This position operates under flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position.  Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively, and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.

SALARY WAGE: $95,000 to $115,000 Annually

Essential Functions

• Oversees the department material needs and ensuring that adequate supplies are available when needed.
• Schedule and supervise staff for the machine shop and building maintenance employees (janitors).
• Fill in for labor pool and mobile maintenance supervisors.
• Assists with various projects as assigned by specific departments or Superintendents.
• Provides troubleshooting assistance and/or repair as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of materials and equipment applicable to the position.

• Proficiency with computer software programs such as standard Microsoft Office applications, EAM and planning/scheduling software.
• Compliance with all safety guidelines including the wearing of protective equipment and clothing at all times.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Internal Control Responsibilities

Supports the Company’s Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business.

Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will have supervisory responsibility over bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit hourly employees.

Job Conditions

This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions. Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and scrap as would be found throughout the scrap yard.  Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment as needed, must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards. Travel is not required for this position.

Handling multiple issues regarding safety and maintenance increases pressure. Workload may be unpredictable, and pressure can be substantial during peak times.  Critical deadlines require considerable adaptability. Disturbances of workflow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis.  Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.

Environmental Conditions & Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions 

• Climbing:  Frequently.  Ascending or descending stairs and rail cars daily. 
• Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching:  Frequently. To pick up parts or equipment. 
• Standing/Walking:  Continually.  Within the manufacturing plant as well as outdoors.
• Reaching:  Frequently.  To retrieve supplies, parts and equipment.  
• Pushing/Pulling/Lifting:  Continually.  To move items within the manufacturing plant or outdoors. Lifting devices are used for items weighing over 50 pounds.
• Grasping:  Continually.  To gather supplies or to compile and assemble paperwork. 
• Repetitive Motions of the hands/wrists/fingers:  Frequently. To enter or retrieve data from the computer or to use tools, supplies and equipment in manufacturing. 
• Sitting:  Rarely.

Use of Senses Required to Perform Essential Functions 

• Talking in Person/By Telephone or Two Way Radio:  Continually.  To communicate with co-workers or supervisors to gather information or to give direction.
• Hearing:  Continually.  To listen, in person and over the phone or two-way radio, and to understand despite loud mill environment. Ability to detect equipment malfunction or irregularities in tools or machinery.
• Vision:  Continually.  To read either paperwork or information on a computer monitor. Good visual acuity necessary for safety reasons in a manufacturing environment and essential to ability to perform the duties of the job.
• Smell:  Continually.  To detect irregularities or hazards such as gas, fire, smoke or fumes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in related field preferred.
• 5 years of relevant experience in the maintenance/mechanical area of a manufacturing plant or industrial environment.
• Experienced in developing and/or performing in a maintenance structure designed for high reliability through defined standards and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and achieve desired results.
• Experienced with RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and FMEA (Failure Mode Analysis).
• Oracle EAM or Similar CMMS system experience
• Millwright experience and certification preferred.
