Job Overview:
As an Export Operations Manager at Rail Modal Group, you will oversee the Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier Operations team, ensuring the efficient coordination of export activities. This role is crucial in maintaining strong relationships between Rail Modal Group, its customers, and steamship lines. You will play a pivotal role in managing various operational functions, driving performance improvements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Job Duties:
- Oversee and optimize Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier trade lanes, ensuring reliable services and strong relationships
- Work closely with customers to understand their needs, develop tailored solutions, provide expert advice on shipping routes, transit times, and regulations
- Manage and motive a team ensuring effective communication and collaboration
- Make recommendations to improve efficiencies
- Track key performance indicators for the Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier department
- Run daily, weekly, and monthly reports
- Provide daily and weekly updates to other leaders
- Lead and train a team on effective export processes and compliance regulation
- Respond with solutions to any discrepancies with customers
Other Job Duties:
- Submit booking requests to steamship lines, confirm bookings and enter information into system
- Receive and process shipping instructions from customers, and enter/submit the same into system
- Receive draft bills of lading from steamship lines and send them to the customers for review
- Process revisions and iteration between steamship line and customers to finalize bills of lading
- Manage inventory of serialized outbound bill of lading forms
- Receive outbound bill of lading files, print them to serialized forms, and send them via courier to customers
- Receive and process customer requests for container changes of destination
- File changes of destination in the Automated Export System
- Receive and process customer requests for splitting of bookings, as well as combinations of multiple bookings
- File rates with the Federal Maritime Commission through its DPI platform
- Audit freight bills weekly
- Onboard new customers
- Other tasks as directed by leadership
- Strong attention to detail and good communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or related field preferred
- 5 years experience holding a leadership position
- Proven ability to lead and develop others
- Exceptional customer service
- Strong technical skills
- Experience with document processing or logistics software
- Experience with the software Cargowise preferred
- Ability to meet deadlines while handling multiple priorities
- Willingness to work as a team with other departments
