Job Summary:

RailPros is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Industrial Development to lead and grow our national practice. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive technical rail engineering expertise, a strategic mindset, and the ability to develop and manage client relationships effectively. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, our business development team, the engineering delivery team, and internal stakeholders to drive growth, enhance service offerings, and deliver high-quality projects in industrial rail development. This role requires 30% travel to meet with clients and support project initiatives nationwide.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and expand RailPros' Industrial Development practice across North America.
  • Oversee and manage technical project delivery for industrial rail projects including but not limited to: feasibility studies, concept to final engineering design, permitting tasks, and construction management support.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and continued business growth.
  • Work closely with the business development team to identify opportunities, prepare proposals, and secure new projects.
  • Actively lead the delivery effort within RailPros engineering and the operations teams to ensure project success and alignment with client timelines and goals.
  • Regularly report status to project stakeholders in the management of industrial development clients.
  • Provide thought leadership and technical expertise in industrial rail planning, design, and construction.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Represent RailPros at industry conferences, client meetings, and other professional events.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in rail engineering and industrial rail development.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing large-scale industrial rail projects.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage clients, internal teams, and industry stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and lead a national practice.
  • Experience in business development and client relationship management.
  • Understanding of rail industry regulations, permitting, and compliance requirements.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time to client sites and project locations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Prior experience working with Class I and short line railroads, industrial clients, and logistics companies.
  • Strong understanding of overall rail engineering, terminal design, track infrastructure, and intermodal logistics.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning for rail projects
  • Active participation in industry organizations such as AREMA, ASCE, or NRC
