About the Role: We are looking for a motivated Civil Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will work closely with experienced civil engineers to gain hands-on experience in various engineering projects, contribute to design development, and enhance your technical skills. This internship is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering who are eager to learn and grow in a real-world environment.

 

What Engineers Can Expect from the RailPros Internship Program

The RailPros Internship Program provides hands-on learning and professional development in the rail industry.

  • Kickoff Event: Start with a virtual orientation introducing the program and leadership.
  • Lunch & Learn Sessions: Gain insights on engineering topics like track, civil, and traffic from industry experts.
  • Field Visits: Experience real-world engineering and construction projects.
  • Networking: Participate in office events and professional association lunches (e.g., WTS, ASCE).
  • National Intern Day: Present your work to leadership and stand out for recognition opportunities.
  • Mentorship: Work with mentors on meaningful projects to build technical and professional skills.

This program prepares you for a successful engineering career with real-world exposure and expert guidance.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Design Development:
    • Work alongside the civil design team to support the development and improvement of engineering projects.
    • Collaborate on creating detailed design drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • CAD Modeling and Drafting:
    • Use AutoCAD and/or MicroStation to produce accurate and detailed models and drawings.
    • Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulations, and project requirements.
  • Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data relevant to civil engineering projects to support design decisions.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers and project managers, to ensure project success.
    • Communicate progress, ideas, and challenges clearly with the team.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance activities, ensuring designs meet client standards and are free from errors.

Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proficient with electronic communication and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
  • No prior experience required.
