What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at Rainbow Child Development Center, Inc?
Rainbow Child Development Center is an early education and care agency comprised of three programs offering children a wide variety of learning experiences, including STEAM, music, literacy, and more. We have long understood the importance of young children’s emotional competence and an evidence-based social-emotional learning approach to creating the building blocks for lifelong learning and success. Our programs provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences to fulfill each child’s potential for social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
During summer vacation, Rainbow offers a Summer Day Camp program for school aged children. This program is located at Camp Marshall (92 McCormick Rd, Spencer), with bus transportation provided from/to Rainbow’s building at 10 Edward Street in Worcester. Our summer camp provides children with fun and challenging outdoor learning experiences to learn new skills and build self-esteem. Activities include swimming, basketball, dance, team sports, science, literacy, field trips, and more.
We are seeking to hire a cohort of Summer Camp Counselors for Summer 2025. They will be responsible for the supervision and safety of the children enrolled in the program, as well as carrying out daily program activities.
Duties:
- Work with Director/Assistant Director and staff before camp opening to set up camp program areas and the program for campers
- Attend and participate in all staff trainings and meetings
- Plan creative and interesting activities for assigned group of campers, as the daily schedule permits
- Assist in teaching swimming lessons, nature, arts/crafts, and other activities as assigned
- Observe and enforce all safety regulations
- Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem-solving in the group
- Develop opportunities for interaction between campers and staff
- Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during camp
- Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns
- Help campers plan their participation in camp-wide programs and special events
- Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, and sportsmanship
- Other duties as assigned
