SUMMARY
The Associate Teacher is responsible for the planning, supervision, and implementation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood program in order to meet the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of the children in the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP). This position is an AFSCME union position and falls under the Instructional Assistant classification. This position is weekdays from 8:00am-3:00pm for a total of 37.5 hours per week. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REPSONSIBILITIES
- Assist the GSRP teacher with adapting and using learning materials and equipment to meet the needs of individuals with different ability levels, learning styles, or language backgrounds.
- Assist in the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises in compliance with the curriculum for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom goals and objectives.
- Suport the GSRP teacher in the instructional process.
- Assist the GSRP teacher in evaluating the progress of classroom objectives.
- Assist the GSRP teacher in using a team teaching classroom approach.
- Participate in family home visits.
- Report observations and incidents of specific students and communicate information to the GSRP teacher.
- Assist students individually or in small groups through practice and study activities following the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel.
- Assist the GSRP teacher with managing discipline through the use of positive reinforcement.
- Use and apply technology when working with students.
- Participate in professional development, late arrival days, and training as required by the district, the MISD and licensing.
- Assist children in the development of speaking, writing, reading and listening skills.
- Under the guidance of the GSRP teacher, prepare materials and assist in the delivery of the educational program.
- Adhere to the district's confidentiality policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree (AA) in Early Childhood or Child Development; or a valid classroom CDA credential; or an existing 120-hour approval
- Previous Pre-School experience preferred
- Evidence of strong teamwork, communication skills and problem-solving skills
- Maintain a positive working relationship with parents/guardians and staff
- Ability to exercise good judgement and make decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines
- CPR Certification
- Must be able to pass a criminal history and childcare background check
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate and acceptable
COMPENSATION
The compensation is outlined in the 2024-2026 AFSCME collective bargaining agreement.
