What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meteorological Radar Specialist position at Rainmaker Technology Corporation?
Rainmaker is pioneering a modern cloud seeding system to solve water scarcity and inclement weather problems. We develop and incorporate radar validation, weather-resistant UAS, numerical weather modeling, and sustainable cloud seeds into an effective precipitation enhancement solution.
The Meteorological Radar Specialist is responsible for the acquisition, processing, and analysis of radar data for meteorological applications. This role requires a deep understanding of radar technology, meteorological processes, and data analysis techniques. The specialist will work closely with meteorologists, data scientists, and engineers to develop and implement advanced data processing algorithms.
\n- Data Acquisition: Access in-house and publicly available radar data from various sources (e.g., NEXRAD, DWR, cloud radars).Develop and maintain data acquisition workflows to retrieve large multi-spectral radar datasets.Implement data storage and management strategies, including distributed computing methods, database management systems, data partitioning, vectorizing operations, and GPU acceleration.
- Data Ingest, Quality Control, and Processing: Ingest radar data into custom data processing systems. Identify hardware and calibration issues and work to rectify them. Perform data quality checks and corrections, including non-weather signal identification, clutter mitigation, and attenuation correction (as examples). Develop and apply radar data processing algorithms to derive single and dual-polarization moments and Level 3 type products.
- Data Analysis:Analyze radar data to extract meteorological information, such as precipitation intensity, particle classification, storm structure, and multi-scale dynamics. Develop and apply data visualization techniques to represent the radar-based meteorological phenomena. Contribute to scientific research projects and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Algorithm Development: Develop and test new algorithms for radar data processing and analysis. Collaborate with data scientists and meteorologists to improve existing algorithms. Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in radar technology and data analysis techniques.
- Cloud Seeding Applications: Support cloud seeding operations by providing radar data analysis to identify suitable cloud targets and assess the effectiveness of seeding efforts. Develop algorithms to estimate the potential for precipitation enhancement from cloud seeding.
- Radar System Knowledge:Understand the capabilities and limitations of precipitation and cloud radars. Assist in the operation, maintenance, and calibration of radar systems.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in meteorology, atmospheric science, or remote sensing.
- Strong understanding of radar technology, microphysical meteorological processes, and data analysis techniques.
- Experience with data acquisition, processing, and analysis of large datasets. This involves extensive experience with distributed computing methods, database management systems, data partitioning, vectorizing operations, and GPU acceleration.
