Key point contact in the revenue cycle process. Acts as a liaison between the hospital coding staff, Parallon, outsourced coding staff vendor, Case Management and CDI staff. Actively monitors deficiency reports and processes notification letters to the medical staff in standards and quality guidelines in the HIM department. To assist in enforcing the documentation guidelines as set forth within the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
Reports to: Director of Health Information Management
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides leadership and assists with day to day analysis, DNFB functions, revenue cycle operations.
- Communicates and informs staff of pertinent information related to job workflow processes to improve completion of the health record.
- Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in workflow and/or responsibilities.
- Ability to handle stress. The ability to effectively prioritize various responsibilities, interruptions and departmental functions.
- Conducts self as a team player at all times.
- Serves as a key resource as designated by HIM Director.
Serves as a liaison throughout the revenue cycle process.
- Monitors analysis function in the HIM Department.
- Performs analysis education based on audits and productivity opportunities. Assists and participates in new hire training and education.
- Assists in the denial management process as designated by the HIM Director.
- Monitors all unbilled accounts on a regular basis and coordinates follow through on these accounts to maintain organization standards.
- Ability to reduce and maintain the Unbilled and any additional reports to meet goals as established by CEO, CFO, Corporate, and HIM Director.
- Works and monitors E-Requests with billing department on a daily/weekly basis.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service to both internal and external customers through positive communications, cooperation, professional behavior and displaying by actions that customer satisfaction is the primary goal of this institution.
- Maintains a positive attitude and displays patience in dealing with customers and staff.
- Deals effectively with questions and concerns of Medical Staff, patients and employees using own judgment when needed, ensuring good rapport with all areas.
- Maintains an excellent rapport and professional relationship with associates, gains cooperation of staff while working toward hospital and departmental goals; responds to concerns in a professional manner; maintains appropriate departmental communication.
- Performs validation on all provider deficiencies.
- Completes or assists with productivity, quality and competencies for HIM staff within the required time frames. Submits reports to HIM Director.
- Ensures all The Joint Commission standards or regulatory agencies are compliant within assigned areas.
- Working knowledge of functions in areas of assigned responsibility.
- Informs director of outstanding problems and new developments related to HIM Department.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
Associate degree is preferred. Anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and computer technology courses are required without RHIT.
Required Skills
Must possess the ability to interact well with other healthcare professionals, internal and external customers, and with staff in the HIM department and other departments when faced with difficult situations. Must possess the ability to work well independently and must have good oral and written communication skills. Experience in Microsoft word, excel, power point and related programs.
Minimum Work Experience
Two years directly in healthcare or related experience.
