The GI Charge Entry Specialist performs functions critical to GI and Hospital Procedure charge entry. Maintain all A/R workflow and procedures as per departmental and company policy. Keep current coding and billing as per policy.

On an average day, you will:
- Charge Entry of procedures, and office visits for all GI and Hospital locations ensuring they are billed correctly by reviewing chart documentation, authorizations, and NDC
- Keep current on all insurance company updates pertaining to both CPT and ICD coding requirements
- Missing Ticket resolution for office charges
- Stay in contact with and give feedback to the nurses, nurse managers and providers about charging for services rendered and any corrections that need to be done to both charges and documentation
- Maintain strictest confidentiality and comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
- Maintain the security of protected health information (PHI); including what PHI access is allowed and the reason for access to PHI.
- Communicate with physicians and or the Director of Nursing for any issues with documentation, coding changes or further issues, etc.
- Report to work at the scheduled time and seldom be absent from work.
- Other duties as assigned.
To qualify for this job you must have:
- CPC is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four years of experience in medical charge entry is required.
- Physician billing/insurance follow up of AR related experience in healthcare organization is preferred.
- Data entry skills
We’d also love it if you have:
- Billing practices and clinic policies and procedures.
- Medical terminology, CPT, HCPCs, and ICD codes.
- Customer service concepts and techniques.
- Use of office equipment including phone, scanner, computer, fax machine and copier.
- Time management, problem solving, multitasking, and prioritizing.
- Understanding and following written and oral instruction.
- Audit outstanding accounts and provide accurate resolution
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with patients and other individuals inside and outside the practice.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Work independently in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.
- Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and work to maintain constructive.
Physical requirements and work environment:
- Involves sitting for approximately 90% percent of the day and walking and standing for the remainder.
- May require some lifting and bending.
- Stress can be triggered by workload and difficult patients. Manual dexterity using a calculator or keyboard.
