The Laboratory Assistant-Phlebotomist is vital in the production of clinical laboratory results and is responsible for obtaining quality blood and other specimens and following proper infection control procedures.

On an average day, you will:
- Assemble equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
- Perform computer functions to add or cancel a test, receive specimens, print labels, etc.
- Verify identity of patient prior to blood draw.
- Draw blood from patients via veni-puncture, arterial, and capillary punctures.
- Identifying and labeling specimens.
- Perform other lab related responsibilities as required.
- Travel to other clinic sites as needed.
- Work with sensitive patient cases in a confident manner.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of all necessary supplies.
To qualify for this job you must have:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certificate from a completed Phlebotomy program.
- Medical terminology.
- At least six months experience in phlebotomy.
We’d also love it if you have:
- One to two years of phlebotomy experience.
- Experience working in a physician’s office clinic.
- Phlebotomist (ASCP) certification.
Physical requirements and work environment:
- Requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, and stooping on a daily basis.
- Frequent standing and walking required for extended periods of time.
- Consistent use of PPE due to handling of potentially infectious materials.
- Fine motor skills.
- Visual acuity and normal color perception.
- Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
