Summary
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
Responsible for the collection of delinquent and at risk loan accounts, following credit union and regulatory policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Collection of delinquent loans:
- Daily collection of delinquent loans and overdrawn active accounts from assigned collection queue
- Handling incoming and outgoing telephone communication and correspondence with members and others as necessary.
- Effective follow-up of broken payment arrangements
- Documentation of collection activity on the detail collection history record
- Determination of reason for delinquency and the best course of action to resolve delinquent conditions
- Perform skip tracing as required
- Recommend to Team Leader repossession actions, loan extension; document members’ financial condition and factors considered
- Once repossession of collateral has been approved, begin the process and ensure follow up with agency; once collateral repossessed forward to repo clerk for handling.
- All other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Supervise Approximately: None
Reports To: Collections Manager
Contacts: Frequent contacts with members and other departments. Tact and diplomacy are necessary attributes to deal with various situations causing issues with loan payments.
Requirements
EDUCATION
High School Diploma/GED is required.
EXPERIENCE
12 months of negotiation/sales experience in a high volume environment is necessary to perform the job duties. Delinquent account collections preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical effort is minimal; however along with communication skills: speaking and hearing abilities, and wrist/hand movement is inherent in the job as well as restriction to workspace for prolonged periods. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for frequent viewing of computer monitor and review of documents. Ability to work evenings, overtime, and Saturdays at management request.

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must have a strong ability to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must have a strong ability to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
EQUIPMENT SKILLS
Personal computer with windows environment and related printers, fax machine, calculator, copy machine.
