Part-Time Shop Assistant

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for refueling reefers at multiple locations, servicing all spotter trailers, and completing minor repairs. This position works Sunday through Friday for 2-4 hours per day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

·         Checking all reefers (running or not) for fuel levels and there are no codes/problems with them

·         What do the codes mean and the process to fix each code

·         Travel to RMI warehouse in Paw Paw to check the reefers for fuel level and codes

·         If codes cannot be fixed, contacting dispatch to get that trailer loaded into another one

·         Check with spotter drivers if they need fluids or repairs

·         Picking up mail at the warehouse and return it to the offices in Mattawan

·         Picking-up load locks and bringing it back to Mattawan

·         Process of going to:

o    Michigan Natural Storage

o    Welches

o    Refresco

·         Completing minor repairs, such as:

o    Changing or repair of lights, mudflaps, etc.

o    Repair of mirrors

o    CB radios

 Minimum Qualification:

·         High school diploma or GED equivalent

·         Previous experience in manufacturing or shop work, including metal or wood shop classes

·         Must be reliable worker and able to work in rain/sun and in the heat/cold

·         Aptitude for mechanics

·         Familiarity with hand tools

·         Capacity to analyze a situation and prioritize tasks

·         Strong communication skills

·         Exceptional hand-eye coordination

·         Physically capable of standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 50 pounds
