Description :
This position will develop, implement, and support aerospace manufacturing welding processes through equipment operation, process compliance, and new product development. The engineer will coordinate and conduct operator training and certifications to support production lines and will ensure compliance to industry and customer requirements. The engineer will evaluate and propose needed machinery and manufacturing tools as needed and support the manufacturing value streams.
Requirements : BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 3 years of technical experience in manufacturing welding
Knowledge of metallurgy and welding processes (EB and Laser welding preferred)
Sound understanding of welding fundamentals and theory
Ability to evaluate equipment and perform preventative maintenance as needed
Ability to communicate and work with cross functional teams.
Bachelor’s degree in welding, manufacturing or related engineering discipline
Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :
Understanding of aerospace industry standards to make informed design decisions (AMS 2680, AMS 2681, AWS C7.X, AWS D17.X, NADCAP, etc)
Familiarity with non-destructive test methods and requirements (Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, Radiographic, Ultrasonic)
Ability to develop and implement robust manufacturing workflows and documentation
Understanding of basic CNC Welder programming
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and requirements
An understanding of general manufacturing processes and cost optimization methods
Experience with TIG and resistance welding
Familiar with CAD or 3D modeling (Solidworks)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
Troubleshoot process and equipment failures and coordinate actions to restore functionality.
Oversee the equipment and process operation for the Electron Beam and Laser welding processing.
Support the development of new engineering projects with weld design input and process development.
Establish and coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and protocols in collaboration with the maintenance department.
Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation (specifications, work instructions, process specific instructions, standard operating procedures, etc.) to be compliant with customer and industry requirements.
Create and deliver training to production operators, maintenance personnel, engineering staff, and management on equipment, processes, and systems.
Develop and maintain industry compliance (Nadcap) for special processes (Electron Beam and Laser Welding).
Generate and maintain Nadcap audit checklist compliance matrices to support compliance activities.
Implement and coordinate process improvements in efficiency and productivity based on lean tools and principles
Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
Identify and recommend product design changes to reduce or eliminate machine, system, or product malfunctions.
Provide training and certification to process operators
Support manufacturing in other capacities as needed to improve production safety, quality, delivery, and costs.
