Description

Objective

Responsible to set up grinding machines used for grinding the outer or inner cylindrical or tapered surfaces of metal surfaces.

Essential Functions

• Monitors machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary; Stop machine when problems occur.
• Set-up and operates grinding or polishing machines to grind metal work pieces such as dies, parts, and tools.
• Operates grinding or polishing machines to grind metal work pieces from machines and places them in boxes or on racks; set aside pieces that are defective.
• Finishes surfaces of work pieces, using prescribed hand tools.
• Selects and mounts grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures.
• Performs basic maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts.
• Removes and replace worn or broken machine parts, using hand tools.
• Computes numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, micrometers, scales, and gauges and adjust tools to produce specified cuts.

Qualifications

Preferred Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent, and prior experience in a related field.
• Diligence and accuracy.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and a good understanding of math and measurements.
• Ability to work well under pressure is essential for this career.
• Effective communication and people skills.

• Must have excellent mechanical skills.
• Ability to work with precision and accuracy.

Required Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Precisely coordinate movements of fingers and both hands to manipulate or assemble objects.

• Ability to compare similarities and differences among sets of letters, numbers, objects, pictures, or patterns.

• Physical Demands

  While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to sit and talk or hear, walk, and climb stairs. Also, the employee must be able to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; Reach with hands, arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

   

  The partner must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

  The Grinding Operator will frequently spend time on the manufacturing floor as well as in the office. While on the manufacturing floor, the employee must wear eye and hearing protection. Safety-toed shoes are highly recommended while being around manufacturing equipment.
