Description
Objective
The Tapper Operator is to run tapping equipment in so to help production be completed in this stage. This includes delivering and loading material to the machines, starting them up, and troubleshooting issues to keep them running as efficient as possible.
Essential Functions
- Required to operate up to four tapping machines within 8 hour shift
- Moves chips from tapping equipment to Briquette machine for oil recycling
- Clear jams on tapping equipment and restarts machine, can also do minor troubleshooting to clear faults, and prevent reoccurrence
- Safe use of crane to transport and dump bins into tapping machine hoppers
- Performs quality checks on production parts
- Use of thread gages
- Use of go/no-go gages to qualify tapped ID of nuts
- Recognize and understand need for tap changes; can change the taps in all production equipment and requalify parts upon restarting machine
- Refill machines with tapping oil
- Clean out of machines as needed per the schedule
- Removal of chips from machine bed and catch bin compartments
- Rotates full bin out and empty bin back into place using tow motor
- Utilize production software and weigh counting scale to process good product to next operation
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic math skills
- Be able to read and write and understand work instructions and the provided training to learn the job
- Work in a manufacturing environment, will be exposed to oily conditions as machine and nuts are lubricated with oil during operation
- 90 day training period
Preferred Skills
- Fastener or tapping experience
- Experience with basic measurement tools (Calipers, Micrometers, Gages)
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The person in this position frequently is required to walk and climb stairs. Also, it is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/ occasionally loud. While on the manufacturing floor, the Tapping Operator will be required to wear eye and hearing protection. Safety-toed shoes are highly recommended around and on manufacturing equipment.
