JOB OVERVIEW:
The Machinist is a key role responsible for operating and maintaining a CNC gantry mill to manufacture precision components used in medical devices. This position involves setting up the machine, running production cycles, and ensuring all parts meet tight tolerances and quality standards. The Machinist will work closely with the engineering and quality assurance teams to optimize machining processes and maintain compliance with industry regulations. Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential for this role. The Machinist reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Consistently models the core values of the company both internally and externally.

- Understand and follow the processes of the Rampart Quality System.
- Set up and operate CNC machining equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications to determine the best machining process.
- Program, adjust, and troubleshoot CNC machines to achieve precise dimensions and finishes.
- Perform quality control inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measurement tools to ensure adherence to tight tolerances.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on machining equipment, ensuring proper operation and longevity of tools and machines.
- Maintain accurate and detailed production records, including machine settings, process improvements, and quality reports.
- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize machining processes and troubleshoot manufacturing challenges.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards such as ISO and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Identify and suggest process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of machining techniques, materials, and industry advancements.
- Any other duties as required by the supervisor.

- First Pass Yield (FPY): Measures the percentage of parts that meet quality standards without requiring rework.
- Defect Rate: Monitors the number of defective parts produced, aiming for continuous improvement in quality.
- Cycle Time: Assesses the time required to manufacture each part to identify areas for process optimization.
- Machine Utilization Rate: Tracks the efficiency of machine usage to ensure optimal production output.
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating CNC machines as well as understanding GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Problem-Solving: Capability to troubleshoot machining issues and adjust processes for optimal results.
- Attention to Detail: Strong ability to maintain precision in machining operations and quality control inspections.
- Mathematical Skills: Solid understanding of geometry, algebra, and trigonometry for machining calculations.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with engineering and production teams.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Basic Computer Skills: Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and ability to input machining programs.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational training or an associate degree in machining or manufacturing technology preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
