· Part Time Role – 20-30 hrs. (Hours per Day – 6 and Hours per Week – 30)
· 11-4 or 11-3 Mon- Fri with some flexibility to work additional if needed.
Min AS degree preferred or HS Diploma with 5 yrs exp.
Description:
The lab technician's role is critical to the efficient operation and maintenance of the lab. Key responsibilities include managing shipping processes, maintaining inventory, setting up and maintaining equipment, installing and configuring software, keeping accurate records, managing lab space, collaborating with IT, providing technical support, and ensuring safety and compliance. Below is a detailed list of specific tasks within each area:
Shipping
o Create shipping memos
o Pack and prepare equipment for shipment
o Transport shipments to/from the mailroom/shipping department
o Track and manage received packing slips
Inventory
o Add new equipment to inventory systems
o Perform regular inventory audits and reconciliation
o Ensure assets are accurately tracked with their locations
o Manage check-in/out process for borrowers
o Dispose of obsolete equipment following the scrapping/waterfall processes
Equipment
o Set up PCs, rack mount servers, switches, and peripherals
o Install and configure components in servers/PCs
o Configure BIOS settings
o Configure network switches
o Ensure proper cabling and power management
o Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting
Software
o Install operating systems on lab equipment
o Configure virtual machines and networking
o Install necessary tools and software on systems
Record Keeping
o Update documentation for network and switch configurations
o Record systems in use and their locations
o Accurately label systems and networks
Lab Space Management
o Keep the lab organized, including tools, active setups, systems in storage, and excess peripherals/cables
o Plan and optimize lab layout for efficiency
o Ensure proper ventilation and cooling for equipment
o Coordinate with corporate services for lab upgrades and repairs
o Move equipment between labs as needed
IT
o Collaborate with IT on lab network infrastructure issues, upgrades, and improvements
o Follow information security rules for network configuration
o Ensure systems are patched and IT-required tools are installed
Support
o Provide technical support for lab equipment and network issues
o Notify lab users of downtime and issues
Safety and Compliance
o Ensure lab safety protocols are followed
o Conduct regular safety inspections
o Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
