We are seeking a Livestock Grazing Program Manager to drive the expansion of our grazing operations in San Diego County and help secure partnerships with government agencies, landowners, and private sector customers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Development:
- Design and implement a strategic grazing program to expand access to grazable land beyond company-owned properties.
- Develop and execute plans for targeted grazing to support wildfire risk reduction and ecological restoration.
- Establish and maintain relationships with government agencies (e.g., USFS, BLM) and align with current and upcoming forest-level management programs.
2. Customer and Contract Management:
- Identify and secure grazing contracts with public and private landowners in San Diego County and surrounding regions.
- Pursue and manage grant opportunities, grazing leases, and contracts on federal, state, and local lands.
3. Livestock Management:
- Ensure the health, care, and protection of livestock during remote grazing operations.
- Develop protocols for livestock health, safety, and welfare in remote and diverse environments.
- Coordinate transportation of livestock, equipment, and staff to and from grazing sites.
4. Team Leadership:
- Build and train a team to manage livestock and grazing operations at remote locations.
- Oversee day-to-day field operations to ensure efficiency and safety.
5. Wildland and Land Management Expertise:
- Apply knowledge of wildland management, grazing techniques, and ecological best practices to reduce fuel loads and invasive species.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to demonstrate the environmental benefits of targeted grazing.
Qualifications
- Required:
- In-depth knowledge of livestock health, care, and management.
- Proven experience with grazing programs using goats or other livestock.
- Familiarity with wildland management techniques, particularly for fuel load reduction.
- Ability to build relationships with government agencies and private landowners.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to write, apply for, and manage grants, grazing leases, and contracts.
- Preferred:
- Experience working with government land management agencies such as the USFS, BLM, or similar organizations.
- Knowledge of transportation logistics for livestock and equipment.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing remote teams.
