Rancho Cielo Youth Campus empowers youth through education, mentorship, and community engagement.  We believe in fostering a supportive environment where young people can develop their skills, confidence, and leadership abilities.

The Cook at Rancho Cielo Youth Campus will play a vital role in providing nutritious meals for our students.  This position requires a passion for food and a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.  The cook will work collaboratively with staff to prepare meals that cater to the dietary needs of our diverse youth population.

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Non-Exempt.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives supervision from Rancho Cielo’s General Manager of Culinary and additional supervision from John Muir’s Charter School Executive Chef/Instructor.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

·         Prepare and cook nutritious meals, ensuring quality and presentation standards are met.

·         Plan and develop menus that accommodate various dietary restrictions and preferences.

·         Maintain a clean and organized kitchen space, following health and safety regulations.

·         Work with the Kitchen Manager to manage inventory and order supplies as needed.

·         Engage youth participants in cooking activities and educational sessions about nutrition and healthy eating.

·         Collaborate with other staff to support special events and activities that may require catering.

·         Monitor food storage and expiration dates to minimize waste and ensure food safety.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Previous experience in cooking for food preparation, preferably in a non-profit or institutional setting.
• Knowledge of nutritional guidelines and dietary needs for youth.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for working with youth and promoting healthy lifestyles.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
• Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office suite.

Training and experience:

Any combination of educational training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities qualifies.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

·         Culinary degree or equivalent experience in professional kitchen environments.

·         Experience working with at-promised youth or in educational settings is preferred.
