What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full-time Computer Support Specialist position at Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District?
THE POSITION
The Computer Support Specialist reports directly to the Director of Administration and is a member of the Administration Department. This position works as a supportive role for the District's computer users to ensure the proper functioning and continual improvement of the computer network, software, hardware, website, and provides technical assistance in the use of computer applications. Standard hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of modified work weeks to allow working Board Meetings which typically occur twice a month at 6:30 p.m.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The District has approximately 80 computers spread over 29 locations in Simi Valley and Oak Park. Recent efforts have focused on upgrading computers, moving old phone lines to internet phones and updating WiFi hardware. Duties of the position may change. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Monitoring District's networks
- Overseeing all WiFi networks
- Ensure proper functioning of desktop computers, laptops, phones, printers, scanners, etc.
- Maintain and upgrade District's website (rsrpd.org)
- Become the resident expert on Microsoft 365 including Exchange, SharePoint and OneDrive
- Distribute and install computer hardware and software
- Serve as main contact person, providing day-to-day technical assistance to
troubleshoot and resolve software and hardware issues
- Train staff on new technology and software operations and/or organize
training utilizing outside resources as needed
- Attend bimonthly meetings to assist with hosting Zoom, displaying presentations, overseeing video streaming and controlling the P.A system.
- Some meetings are after hours and on rare occasion, weekends
- Stay informed of the latest advances in computer related advances and identify technology needs and develop recommendations
- Order computer supplies and equipment and maintain an inventory
- Assist in the recommendation of I.T. related budget items and projects
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education: Graduation with Associate's Degree from a two-year college or technical school with area of emphasis in Computer Science, or equivalent on the job experience.
Experience: The candidate should have knowledge of and experience in supporting: Microsoft Windows 11, Microsoft 365, Exchange Mail Server, SharePoint and OneDrive. Be able to troubleshoot and block email spam.
Abilities: Ability to work with current computer technology, troubleshoot and make repairs, demonstrate good communication and service-oriented skills, work with minimum supervision, adapt to new situations and challenges, work on simultaneous projects and meet deadlines, accept other responsibilities as assigned.
Driver's License: Possess a valid California driver's license and demonstrate a good driving record.
PHYSICAL REOUIREMENTS
It is expected that this position will be sitting 70% of the time or more and require daily climbing of stairs, bending, kneeling or squatting and reaching overhead and it is expected that lifting will be limited to items that weigh 50 pounds or less.
Salary : $6,783 - $8,738
