Job Type: Regular RAND is seeking a Research Accounting Specialist to join our Finance team. Under the general supervision of the Manager of Research Accounting, this role supports the setup of sponsor-funded awards and projects within Workday. Responsibilities include, assisting divisions with monitoring financial activities to ensure compliance with RAND policy and applicable external regulations, and initiating award or contract reconciliation by reviewing financials and coordinating with key personnel. Responsibilities Create projects and tasks, perform ongoing maintenance, conduct quality assurance through knowledge of worktags and worktag mapping, and issue Project Action Notices (PAN). Compile, analyze, and present financial reports to Finance & Accounting management, Division Administrators (DA), and Research Finance Operations (RFO) Directors. Provide consultative assistance regarding internal and/or external funding to projects. Perform and report final income and balance statement positions after fiscal year rate definitization for immediate action. Coordinate with Accounting for manual journal entries or with Billing to post final invoices. Manage award and project records in Workday to maintain financial positions and reconcile project-level balance sheet statements. Assist in researching, executing, and reporting cost transfers with Division Administrators (DA). Evaluate ideas and process changes that drive operational efficiencies and quality. Qualifications Firm knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Must have superior communications skills; able to assess what information is needed and effectively communicate to all internal and external clients. Experience with general ledger functions. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and cross-functional teams. General understanding of database management is a plus. Exposure to contracts and grants is a plus. Must have the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Education Requirements HS Diploma required. AS/AA in Finance, Accounting, Business or similar discipline is preferred. Experience Minimum of 1-2 years of experience required. 3-5 years of experience is preferred. Location We are hiring for this position in Washington, DC, Santa Monica, CA, and Pittsburgh, PA. We offer a hybrid work arrangement, combining work from home and on-site options. Salary Range $57,400 – $85,500 RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate’s work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity. This position is overtime eligible. Successful candidates will be offered employment in a specific title, as determined by the candidate's education and experience.
