POSITION SUMMARY
The Outbound Team Lead will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day shipping operations while also leading and guiding a team of associates. This position combines clerical responsibilities with leadership duties to ensure smooth shipping functions, effective communication, and efficient workflow in the distribution center. The Shipping Team Lead will manage customer shipments, monitor team performance, enforce safety protocols, and provide guidance to associates, all while maintaining a focus on productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and support a team of shipping associates to meet daily goals and deadlines.
- Manage multiple customer accounts and coordinate, schedule, and plan customer shipments.
- Communicate with Customer Service, Carriers, Customers, and the DC in a professional and timely manner.
- Monitor workflow, production, quality, and safety standards within the department.
- Prioritize tasks and ensure the team stays on track to meet production and shipping targets.
- Perform general clerical duties such as data entry, answering calls, filing, and preparing shipping documents (e.g., Bills of Lading, Shipping Manifests).
- Process over, short, and damaged freight and ensure proper documentation for customer resolution.
- Train associates on processes, policies, and procedures, filling in as needed in a supervisory or production role.
- Work closely with the shipping dock associates to coordinate loading schedules and ensure efficient operations.
- Address associate issues and escalate to the department supervisor or HR as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and CTPAT security requirements.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; prior warehouse or shipping experience preferred.
- At least three years of distribution/warehouse experience, with a focus on production, safety, and quality.
- Strong clerical experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Familiarity with warehouse systems and RF guns is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly; up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to reach above shoulder level and bend down to floor level.
- Capability to earn forklift certification and perform required training.
Other Qualifications
- Ability to communicate clearly in English in person, in writing and on the phone. Bi-lingual a plus.
- Self-motivator.
- Demonstrate an ability to calmly handle busy production demands and respectfully interact with co-workers to accomplish tasks and goals.
