Job Description
Summary/objective
The Nursery School Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Nursery School, ensuring a high-quality program for preschool children. This position is perfectly suited to someone who has a passion for early childhood education and who is eager to serve in a leadership capacity.
Essential functions

- Oversees the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff and work study students
- Provides support for teachers and assists with professional development plans
- Encourages and provides opportunities for team building and staff collaboration
- Ensures guidelines for ratios of staff to children are met, filling in for teachers or assistants when there is no substitute available
- Oversees curriculum and evaluation procedures
- Promotes the nursery school in a positive manner, giving informative tours to prospective families and others who visit
- Handles parental concerns and communications including any policy changes, happenings, injuries, or other incidents that occur
- Conducts periodic family surveys of program effectiveness
- Manages enrollment, tuition payments, and billing
- Ensures that the organization is in full compliance with all licensing and safety regulations, maintaining status as a fully licensed child care facility by the Virginia Department of Education
- Develops and manages the annual budget
- Develops, reviews and revises policies related to admission, program and daily operation of the nursery school.
- Implements strategies to recruit and maintain enrollment
- Supervises application and admission policies and procedures.
- Develops the school year calendar
- Communicates program and budget needs to VP of Finance.
- Works with the various college officials to determine long-range needs and roles of the program
- Works with faculty to provide quality educational experiences for college students
- Maintains all child and staff records
- Provides community outreach, becoming involved in relevant organizations and educational programs
- Acts as a liaison with community preschool programs by attending meetings
Supervisory responsibilities
Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers, College Workers

Our play-based program strives to create such an environment by keeping class sizes small, providing excellent staffing, and by creating a safe and happy place to learn.

Required education and experience

- An endorsement or bachelor’s degree in a child-related field such as elementary education, nursing or recreation from a college or university, and one year of programmatic experience.
Preferred education and experience

- A graduate degree in a child-related field such as elementary education, nursing, or recreation from a college or university and six months to one year of programmatic experience.
Additional eligibility requirements
All staff must pass both a Criminal and Central Registry background check, and provide references.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements
Must be authorized to work in the United States. Pre-employment criminal and credit background checks.
