Job Description
Summary/objective
The Medical Assistant supports the operation of the Randolph College Health Center which
provides healthcare services to Randolph College students. These services include health
assessment, treatment and/or referral of health problems, injuries, emergencies, and health
education and counseling.

Job Description
Summary/objective
The Medical Assistant supports the operation of the Randolph College Health Center which
provides healthcare services to Randolph College students. These services include health
assessment, treatment and/or referral of health problems, injuries, emergencies, and health
education and counseling.
Essential Functions

- Provide health care services to Randolph College students by:
- Obtaining the student's health history.
- Performing a physical exam based on the student's complaints.
- Consulting the Health Center Director as needed.
- Referring the student to the nurse practitioner or off-campus provider as needed.
- Providing treatment as specified in the Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Dispensing over the counter medication samples or calling in a medication order to
Manual and the State Board of Pharmacy Regulations.
- Utilizing all contacts with students as a means for education, prevention and health
- Documenting the above information for each student utilizing the S.O.A.P. format
- Prepare patients for examination by the nurse practitioner.
- Assist the nurse practitioner as needed; chaperone nurse practitioner as needed.
- Monitor and care for patients staying in the Health Center for observation.
- Obtain specimens as needed for lab tests (blood, urine, etc.) utilizing appropriate
- Perform point of care lab tests including hemoglobin, urine pregnancy test, urine
- Schedule appointments for referrals (x-ray, dental, off campus specialists etc.).
- Send reminders to students as needed for lab work, follow-up visits, vaccines.
- Answer the telephone and make appointments for the Health and Counseling Center
- Maintain an adequate stock of medications, medical and laboratory supplies.
- Maintain supplies and equipment in medicine and treatment rooms.
- Recharge otoscopes on a regular basis at the end of the day
- Assume responsibility for closing the Health Center, depending on hours scheduled, and
- Assist with new student record review, orientation activities and follow-up tracking.
- Assist with health education activities as requested.
- Continuing education: attend conferences, workshops, participate in online free CME's

- Certification as a medical assistant in the State of Virginia.
- BLS CPR certification by the American Heart Association.
- (Preferred) one (1) year of progressive experience in a medical care facility.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
