What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Nurse II position at Randolph County Government?
This position will assist in all clinic areas: TB, STD/HIV, Communicable Disease, Immunizations, Family Planning, and Preparedness. May coordinate a specific program and/or work as an enhanced role nurse in a specific program. May be responsible for the coordination of a program and answer directly to the clinic manager. May train for and practice as enhanced role nurse in one or more programs, especially STD ERRN. Interviews clients for all programs - obtaining complete patient history, vital signs and assessment for problems. Counsels patients appropriately ensuring thorough understanding of all clinic procedures, treatments, medications, instructions. Distributes educational information based on client need and /or preventive health issues. Explains birth control methods, administers/dispense medications, explains lab and /or exam findings, documents in chart. Assists in communicable disease/HIV/STD, TB by giving and reading tuberculin skin tests, helping provide directly observed therapy, investigating, reporting and treating communicable disease, HIV pre- and post-test counseling, and other duties as needed. Assists all clinic programs in the follow-up of clients with abnormal labs, pap smears, etc. Assists with Preparedness activities such as communicable disease follow-up and/or delivery of DOT, mass prophylaxis, ext. where extra nursing support is needed. Acts as a backup for employee health in relation to maintaining employee immunization records and ensuring employees are up-to-date. Other duties as required and within registered nuse scope of practice.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year of Public Health Nursing experience; or Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience including one year of Public Health Nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special Comments:
Regular work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Monday - Friday. Some weekend/holiday work could be required, as well as some after hours in public health emergencies or investigations.
