What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long Term Substitute History Teacher position at Randolph Public School District?
Long Term Sub needed for May 2 - June 13 (potential to start earlier). The Randolph High School History teacher will facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and implement district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.The ideal candidate will: -Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement-Collaborate with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.-Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.-Promote equity and appreciation of diversity-Maintain classroom management-Plan and facilitate engaging, student centered Civics and History lessons-Incorporate primary and secondary sources that include diverse perspectives of history andteach students how to be conscience of bias and one-sidedness when examining all sources-Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engagingSocial Studies lessons that are linked with 21st Century skills-Deliver high quality instruction in Civics topics and facilitate Civics learning experiences basedon Massachusetts frameworks -Execute the subject matter knowledge requirements specific for High School Social Studies Teachers, including but not limited to: Teaching courses in social studies to high school pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the DESE and other appropriate learning activitiesInstructing students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school districtDeveloping a balanced social studies program involving factual background material, material on current events, discussion time, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships, and make value judgments based on methods of inquiryProviding individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgroundsIncorporating 21st Century skills and technology into social studies curriculumDeveloping knowledge of the purpose, structure, and operation of the American governmental and economic system, and the rights and responsibilities of American citizenshipMaking current material from the mass media available to pupils; plans and guides discussions of current issues against a background of geographical environment and history of area being studied Developing an understanding of the contributions of racial, religious, and political groups to American cultureDeveloping knowledge of political and economic systems of other nations and their influence on personal freedom, education, and living standardsEncouraging students to become aware of the complexity and inter-relations of local, state, national, and world issuesFacilitating students' ability to examine facts, issues, and perspectives from a global viewpoint; drawing connections from social studies curriculum to "big picture" of history
