Are you a highly motivated Associate Scientist with expertise in bioprocessing and upstream fermentation? We are looking for a versatile and detail-oriented professional to join our Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MSAT) Upstream Group to support late-stage development of commercial biopharmaceuticals and vaccines.
This role will focus on process troubleshooting, process improvements, and second-generation process development, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers. You will work in an onsite laboratory setting and contribute to the execution of well-designed experiments, bioreactor operations, and data analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Upstream Bioprocessing Support: Perform routine laboratory studies and contribute to fermentation process development for biotherapeutics.
- Laboratory & Equipment Maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe, and functional laboratory environment while ensuring equipment is properly maintained.
- Regulatory & Compliance: Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to safety and regulatory guidelines.
- Experiment Execution: Setup bioreactors, execute experiments, conduct basic analytics, and document findings.
- Data Analysis & Documentation: Perform complex data analysis, troubleshoot technical issues, and maintain comprehensive documentation.
- Collaboration: Work with MSAT Microbial Team and other scientists to drive process improvements.
- Process Optimization: Contribute to the troubleshooting, optimization, and scale-up of fermentation processes.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioprocessing, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related discipline.
- 0 - 3 years of bioprocess experience in a laboratory or manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques (Required).
- Experience with bioreactor operation and associated analytical tools (Preferred).
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work with complex instrumentation and software.
- Strong analytical, computer, and mathematical skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in the biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry.
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
- Experience with lab-scale microbial fermentation formats and scale-up to pilot/manufacturing scale.
- Familiarity with control and data acquisition systems.
- Understanding of cell culture, fermentations, and industrial-scale fermentation.
- Ability to analyze and apply relevant scientific literature to experimental work.
Work Schedule & Environment:
- Onsite laboratory role based in Andover, MA.
- Monday – Friday, First Shift.
- Requires off-hours lab work on an average of two times per week.
- Exposure to biohazardous agents (e.g., Meningitis, Staph Aureus, Lenti Virus, Strep Pneumoniae).
