Position Snapshot
Range Energy is seeking a Wire Harness Engineer to design and develop complex wire harness systems for our advanced EV trailers. The ideal candidate has a strong background in electrical engineering with a focus on automotive wire harness design and development. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, systems engineers, and manufacturing teams to ensure that our electrical systems meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and reliability.

\n- Design and develop wire harness systems for powered trailers, ensuring compliance with automotive industry standards (i.e. connectors, retention and protection covering component selection and 3D routing)
- Collaborate with mechanical and systems engineers to integrate electrical components seamlessly into trailer designs
- Perform detailed analysis and validation of wire harness designs, including routing, protection, and installation. DFMEA ownership
- Work with suppliers and manufacturers to source and qualify components, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective solutions based on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) best practices
- Support the production team with technical expertise during the manufacturing process, ensuring that wire harnesses are assembled to spec
- Participate in design reviews, provide technical input, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, VA/VE
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues related to wire harnesses during testing and production
- Document and maintain engineering drawings, responsible for change management and engineering documentation of wire harnesses" - 2D Drawings, Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), specifications and Bills of material (BOMs)
- 5-7 years of experience in wire harness design and development within the automotive, heavy-duty trucking, or EV industry
- Proficiency in CAD tools, particularly for wire harness routing and design (e.g., CATIA, NX, Zuken)
- Strong understanding of automotive electrical systems, standards, and best practices
- Experience working with high-voltage systems and components is a plus.
- Ability to work onsite in a hands-on environment, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience with electric vehicle (EV) systems and components
- Knowledge of ISO 26262 and other relevant safety standards
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a shop environment, including standing for extended periods and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Comfortable with occasional bending, kneeling, and climbing as required for infrastructure maintenance. Ability to sustain extended periods of sitting and computer usage
- Travel Requirements: Minimal, primarily for supplier visits or industry events
Range Energy’s compensation package includes a competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles, and a generous benefits package. The salary range for Mountain View, CA-based applicants is between $151,000 - $212,000 USD annually. The total compensation will be determined based on multiple factors including domain knowledge, experience, and location.
