This position is located on Roi-Namur on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. It is an unaccompanied position (no family accommodations or pets). Benefits of this unique location include free housing, three meals a day and potential for overseas tax incentives.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance for the ALTAIR radar antenna electro-mechanical systems and structural members.
- Assist with operations, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair and modification of radar components.
- Maintain operational equipment i.e. (electric motors, pumps, compressors, etc.)
- Maintain shop equipment i.e. (drill press, lathe, sandblaster, plasma table, etc.)
- Maintain current spare parts inventory and procure parts as required.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance performed.
- Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
- Support day-to-day operations to meet radar mission requirements.
- Perform occasional shift work to support operational tasking.
- Works with minimal supervision.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Ability to effectively perform maintenance, repairs and replacement of complex mechanical systems, gear boxes, large brake systems and/or pumps and motors.
- Ability to effectively use standard mechanical tools.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings.
- Ability to communicate with suppliers, perform material estimating, write technical specifications, read and approve submittals and finalize as-built drawings.
- General computer literacy using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Strong written & verbal communication skills.
- Ability to supervise local work force with tasking for the day and ensure safety practices are clear, concise and followed for a safe work environment.
Required Experience
- Associate’s degree in a technical field, equivalent military experience or equivalent work experience
- Five (5) or more years of mechanical field support experience working on electro-mechanical equipment.
- Hands-on experience with maintenance and repairs.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certificate desired.
- SMAW or GTAW weld certifications in 3G and 4G positions desired.
- Machining experience using vertical mill and/or lathe desired.
- Familiarity with CAD desired.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Willingness and physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently.
- Willingness and physical ability to work at heights up to 150 feet.
- Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Garrison - Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, Roi-Namur.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a USAG-KA driver’s license.
- This position is unaccompanied.
- The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements.
