This position is located on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. It is an unaccompanied position (no family accommodations or pets). Benefits of this unique location include free housing, three meals a day and potential for overseas tax incentives.
Essential Functions
- Operate and maintain RTS optical tracking systems and high-speed video cameras.
- Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment in accordance with applicable system technical orders and other appropriate technical documentation.
- Perform daily operations and mission support activities according to standardized checklists and work instructions.
- Assist in analyzing optical tracking equipment and system problems to resolution.
- Assist in maintaining Configuration Documentation (CD/CM), and other records.
- Identify areas of process improvement and recommend efficiencies.
- Assist in preparation of reports as site lead or senior techs require.
- Assist in modification, sustainment, depot-level actions and systems checks/calibrations.
- Troubleshoot to component level, test, repair, calibrate, adjust, install and inspect instrumentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Good personal computer and software application skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Good organizational skills, time management, administrative and prioritization skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to write reports.
- Ability to create, read and understand schematics, elevation, and/ or assembly drawings. Ability to work well independently and also as an active team member in a medium-sized group.
- Ability to be flexible, maintain a positive attitude, be reliable and work under pressure in a very dynamic environment.
- Ability to perform mechanical and electrical assembly, wiring, soldering repair, and checkout on a variety of electronic components, subassemblies, panels, and chassis helpful. Knowledge of digital control systems and/or servo and motor control helpful.
- Knowledge of server hardware and experience with Linux or similar operating systems desired.
Required Experience
- Associates degree in electronics or a related discipline, or equivalent military training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two (2) or more years of experience with field maintenance, tracking system maintenance, electronics, computer systems, and/or optical systems.
- Experience working with standard electronics test equipment such as oscilloscopes, video generators, wave-form generators, and analog/digital multimeters.
- Experience working with inventory control, property control, logistics, and quality standards.
- Experience with Maximo, Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS)/SMARTT and/or other maintenance control systems desired.
- Experience related to the operations and maintenance of Optical tracking systems, including advanced optical sensor and computer-controlled tracking techniques and methodologies preferred.
- Experience with videography (Standard and High Definition) and photography preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport.
- Able to work in a remote locations (alone or in pairs) for extended periods of time.
- Able to work in confined spaces for extended durations.
- Able to lift, carry and maneuver 40 pound Optical components.
- Able to travel by boat, helicopter, or aircraft to work at remote sites with limited facilities. Must have a waist circumference of 42” or less to ride in helicopters.
- This position is unaccompanied.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a USAG-KA driver’s license.
- The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements.
