The goals of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics program in MN are to 1) increase access to community-based mental health and substance use disorder services (particularly to under-served communities), 2) advance integration of behavioral health with physical health care, and 3) improve utilization of evidence-based practices on a more consistent basis.
Job Summary:
The Lead SUD Counselor in our detox location works under the supervision of the medical director, and provides direct client service and mentoring, modeling, coaching and education to LADCs within the RMHC Substance Use Disorders programs, supporting a high-quality client experience.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Primary duty of this specific posting is for the detox/ withdrawal management program at Range Mental Health Center.
- Coordinating with billing, documentation, provision of care for patients in the detox/withdrawal unit.
- Supervision of LADC and ADC-T staff who are assisting in the detox unit. Supervision entails: facilitating their schedule, managing their time and payroll, their hiring process, signing off ADC-T as required in statute, oversight of their documentation and care they provide.
Other Duties/Responsibilities possible within scope of position:
- Assists with day-to-day operation of all Range Mental Health Center’s substance use disorders services.
- Assist Director, Manager and Supervisor with grant applications, contracts, and budgets for all substance use disorders services.
- Participates as needed in counseling and treatment services performing the following essential functions:
- Provide direct SUD services to inpatient and outpatient individuals using group therapy, individual therapy, lectures, and other approved methods.
- Develop individualized treatment plans with assigned people.
- Document appropriate services via preparation of discharge summaries, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant means for each assigned person in the electronic health record (CREDIBLE)
- Coordinate individual involvement with clergy, probation, and other outside agencies/services when appropriate.
- Represents the Range Mental Health Center and assumes other functions and duties as assigned by the Director.
- Participates in Range Treatment Center multidisciplinary case staff meetings.
- Help promote positive interactions with staff from other agencies, the community, and within the Range Mental Health Center
- Participate in public speaking engagements as directed / assigned.
- Represent the Range Treatment Center and assume other functions and duties as assigned by the Director of RTC.
- Act as a liaison to other Range Mental Health Center programs with regards to SUD services and illnesses
- Respond to inquiries regarding SUD services either via phone, writing, or in person.
- Provide coaching, develop and leadership to staff.
- Complete timecard approval and other supervisory tasks
- Facilitate and schedule coverage for LADCs when there is time off or other gaps in the schedule.
- Supervises counselors and helps with decision making for SUD services.
- Assist with scheduling and administrative duties as needed.
- Must comply with all required federal and state guidelines in accordance with the Department of Labor, Department of Human Services, and Department of Health
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must have knowledge of all SUD treatment modalities including evidence-based practice techniques such as motivational interviewing, etc.

- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of interaction with clients in the treatment setting and other relevant confidential information.

Education and Experience:
- Licensed by the State of Minnesota to provide substance use disorder services.
- Two years freedom from substance use problems
- Three (3) years of work experience in the field of substance use disorders.
- Philosophical approach consistent with Range Mental Health Center’s mission
- Pass a Department of Human Services background check.
- Meet minimum training requirements of training under the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Minnesota Department of Health.
- CPR / First Aid certification required. (can obtain through RMHC)
- Current Minnesota driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to operate keyboard and mouse.
- Ability to lift 15 pounds.
- Sufficient vision to utilize a computer monitor, to inspect and monitor the physical outlay or each program, to monitor individual’s behavior and / or body language, and to inspect luggage, clothing, or packages.
- Sufficient hearing acuity to accurately record or respond to another party both in person, on the phone, and in a group setting.
- Maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness and physical appearance.
- Ability to verbally communicate English in a manner that is sufficiently clear to be easily understood.
